Our History
The Sheffield Clinic was established in 2008 to offer immediate access to minor surgical procedures, addressing lengthy NHS waiting times. We have continually evolved to meet the needs of our patients and are now expanding our range of treatments to include a full range of Private General Practice services & a wide range of minor surgical skin procedures and also a range of joint injections.

Dr. John O’Connell is an experienced Medical Practitioner with 41 years of service. He graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1985 and qualified as a General Practitioner in 1992, having completed his JCPTGP training.
With a strong interest in dermatology, Dr. O’Connell pursued postgraduate training, earning a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University in 1998. He has been performing minor skin surgeries since 1992, working in both hospital and primary care settings.
In addition to his dermatology expertise, Dr. O’Connell has completed postgraduate training in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2007. He has served as a Sports Physician across a variety of sports, including football, rugby, and martial arts. An avid cyclist, he has participated in numerous charitable bike rides, most recently in support of SITraN, a department at Sheffield University focused on neurological research.
Dr. O’Connell is also skilled in providing joint injections for arthritis, using treatments such as steroids (cortisone), Platelet Rich Plasma, and Hyaluronic acid.
He was awarded a distinction in a Postgraduate Certificate in Cardiology and has been conducting Exercise Heart Tests for both the NHS and private patients for over 25 years.
To maintain his professional standards, Dr. O’Connell continues to work within the NHS while also contributing his vast experience to The Sheffield Clinic. His approachable and knowledgeable manner makes him a valuable member of our team.

Dr. Nicola Hall is a dedicated and experienced General Practitioner with a strong background in women’s health. She graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1994 and became a GP in 2002, after achieving her JCPTGP qualification and a Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare.
Known for her patient-centred approach, Dr. Hall combines motivation with compassion to provide the highest standard of care for every individual. She has particular expertise in women’s health, including contraception, menstrual disorders, perimenopause, menopause, and urinary incontinence. Her practical skills include fitting intrauterine contraceptive devices (both copper and hormonal), and the insertion and removal of contraceptive implants and ring pessaries.
Since retiring from her NHS practice in 2024, Dr. Hall has worked as a salaried GP, specialising in the care of the elderly. She has joined The Sheffield Clinic to expand our range of services, with a special focus on women’s healthcare. Dr. Hall’s approachable, professional manner and extensive experience make her a valued addition to our team.

Rena is an experienced Consultant Podiatric Surgeon with over 30 years of NHS practice. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Podiatry from the University of Westminster and a Postgraduate Diploma in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery from the University of Brighton.
She gained her Surgical Fellowship in 2019 from the Royal College of Podiatry and achieved her Certificate of Completion in 2024.
Rena is actively involved in promoting her profession through local, regional, and national presentations. She plays a key role in the HCPC Annotation of Podiatric Surgery project and teaches on cadaver dissection and surgical skills courses for podiatrists and aspiring surgeons.
