SmartLipo® (LaserLipolysis)

SmartLipo® (Laser Lipolysis) is a revolutionary tried and tested laser treatment for permanently removing stubborn excess fatty tissue from areas of the body that are resistant to dieting and exercise. The treatment is performed under a local anaesthetic; providing fast, safe and effective results with minimal discomfort, bruising and ‘down time’.

SmartLipo® (Laser Lipolysis) is ideal for reducing pockets of fat from:

• Waist, inner and outer thighs and hips

• Stomach

• Arms (upper)

• Knees

• Under chin

SmartLipo® offers many undeniable advantages over traditional liposuction (which involves the use of a large hollow cannula to suck fat out of the body), usually under general anaesthetic.

There is minimal ‘down-time’ since SmartLipo® is performed under local anaesthetic.

The reduced invasiveness results in less discomfort, less bruising and a shorter procedure and recovery time.

The use of the Laser encourages skin tightening around the area as the fat is absorbed leaving a smoother tighter feel and appearance.

Areas normally considered unsuitable for traditional liposuction can be treated with LaserLipolysis including; face, forearms, upper part of the abdomen and knees.

The procedure is performed in our doctor’s minor surgical suite rather than in an operating theatre and there is no need for an overnight stay in hospital.

SmartLipo® is a much safer procedure than liposuction.

A very small cannula (approx. 1mm in diameter) containing a fibre optic laser, used to direct the laser, is inserted under the skin into the excess fat. The laser then damages the fat cells, releasing liquid fat. Some of this is aspirated during the procedure and the remainder are safely absorbed by the body’s natural processes in the following months.

SmartLipo® is carried out under sterile conditions. The areas to be treated are marked with a special pencil for the skin and lines are traced outwards from one single point in which the local anaesthetic is injected. Once the area is completely anaesthetised the optical fibre of the laser is inserted under the skin through the same incision created for the anaesthetic. The incision is very small and heals without the need for stitches. After a brief rest you will be ready to get dressed and go home.

You will be advised to wear a special garment afterwards to compress the area for at least 7-14 days. All dressings can be removed after 3 or 4 days.

The procedure will be explained to you by the doctor, who will answer any questions you may have.

The procedure usually takes between 1-3 hours depending on the number of areas being treated.

SmartLipo® will cause minimal discomfort and some bruising since it is performed under a local anaesthetic and involves a minimal invasive technique. You may feel a sensation of tugging or minor stinging during the procedure.

One of the main benefits of SmartLipo® is the short recovery time due to the use of a local anaesthetic and reduced invasiveness. We advise patients to start walking again as soon as possible and unlike traditional liposuction, most patients return to work and their normal routine almost immediately. Vigorous Exercise is discourage for up to 2 weeks after the procedure.

You will not see visible results immediately due to minimal swelling but your body contours will continue to improve day by day. Most patients will see significant change within 3 months and the final fat loss within 6-9 months.

The results are permanent as SmartLipo® destroys the fatty cells which are then unable to reproduce. If you don’t eat sensibly and don’t exercise regularly then you can put weight back on by filling up the remaining fat cells.

If you require a further reduction on the same area, additional treatments can be carried out after a four month period. A treatment to a different area can be undertaken after 2-4 weeks.

SmartLipo® is fully approved and tested for use in Europe and the UK with complete clearance from the FDA (the US Food and Drug Administration). It has been used extensively worldwide.

As with any surgical procedure, SmartLipo® is associated with possible side effects; such as temporary bruising, mild swelling or reddening of the skin in the area treated. SmartLipo® is unsuitable for patients with morbid obesity or severe heart, kidney or liver disorders and when taking certain medication e.g. Warfarin, DOACs.

The cost of the treatment starts from £1750 depending on the size of the area treated and a number of additional areas treated on the same day cost from approximately £500 per area. The cost includes an initial consultation, treatment and follow up if required. A short course of antibiotics will also be provided.

Aspiration can be offered in certain areas at an additional cost.
