Dermal Fillers

  • When we are younger, our skin has a natural abundance of collagen and hyaluronic acid which keeps the skin looking smooth and supple by providing structural support and hydrating the skin. Over time skin begins to sag and droop as the underlying fat and collagen diminishes.

Dermal Fillers (hyaluronic acid product) can be injected into the skin safely using a cannula. These tend to plump up then skin, making it firmer and smooth out lines and wrinkles for younger looking skin.

Fillers are used to treat a number of different areas, including:

    • Reducing wrinkles and lines around the eyes, nose, lips and mouth

    • Enhancing lips and redefining lip border

    • Filling hollow cheeks and acne scars

  • Once the fillers are injected directly under the skin it begins to attract and bind water, hydrating the skin and giving it more volume.

  • The fillers are injected underneath the skin’s surface using a very fine cannula to give natural volume and reduce wrinkles.

The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes and many patients go back to work or their day-to-day activities straight away. The treated area should be left alone for 48 hours to let it settle and it is advisable to avoid facials and strong sunlight for 2-3 days.

The procedure will be explained to you by the doctor, who will answer any questions you may have.

  • You will see results immediately after the injections. The final result evident once any swelling and/or bruising has subsided.

  • Although it varies from patient to patient, the results usually last 6-9 months and fade gradually.

The treatment can be repeated every 6 months.

  • At the Sheffield Clinic we use the safety of a cannula to inject the filler. These are used to prevent the filler being inadvertently injected into a blood vessel which could have a disastrous effect. The use of a cannula makes injecting fillers much safer.

There may be slight bleeding, mild bruising or redness where the needle was inserted which will disappear in a few days. In very rare cases an allergic reaction may occur, including itching, puffiness and red or bumpy skin. Ask your practitioner for advice if any of these are a concern.

The fillers we use are biodegradable and are safely broken down and removed by your body’s natural processes.

  • If you do not continue treatments, your lines and wrinkles will gradually revert to how they looked before the dermal filler treatment.

  • Costs will vary depending on the quantity of filler used and the number of areas treated. Prices for consultation and treatment with dermal fillers start from £300.
